The Leon County Detention Facility has transferred Charlie Adelson, who was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday for the murder of FSU law professor Dan Markel in Tallahassee in 2014, to the custody of the Florida Department of Corrections. Adelson was sentenced for the murder in 2014.

For the time being, Adelson is being held at the Northwest Florida Reception Center in Chipley. This facility is responsible for receiving male offenders from county jails in the area who have been sentenced to state prisons.

One of the many facilities in Florida that handles new state inmates is the reception center, which is reserved exclusively for males. Once they arrive, they are given haircuts, fingerprints, photographs, and a medical evaluation. They are often moved to a different prison that is located closer to their hometown after serving a brief period of time in the reception center facility.

Following an eight-day trial that took place at the Leon County Courthouse, Adelson, 47, a periodontist who had previously achieved great success in Fort Lauderdale, was convicted of the murder of Markel on November 6. His sentence was to spend the rest of his life in jail for first-degree murder, as well as thirty years to run consecutively for conspiracy and solicitation, according to Leon Circuit Judge Stephen Everett.

In connection with the fatal shooting of Markel on July 18, 2014, which took place in the garage of his home on Trescott Drive, he was the fourth person to be found guilty. After a week had passed, his mother, Donna Adelson, was taken into custody on accusations of murder while she and her husband were attempting to catch a flight to Vietnam that would only go in one direction from Miami International Airport.

Markel, who was 41 years old at the time and the father of two sons, was the target of a murder-for-hire plan that took place in the midst of ongoing legal disputes between him and his ex-wife, Wendi Adelson, who was Charlie’s younger sister and Donna’s daughter.
