Former sitcom star Danny Masterson, earlier sentenced to 30 years to life for the rape of two women dating back to 2001–2003, faced a recent court development. Masterson’s legal team informed the court that all 23 of his personal firearms had been located and surrendered, as disclosed during a Thursday court session.
The presiding judge in Masterson’s trial, Judge Charlaine Olmedo, had previously ordered the surrender of nine firearms that were not officially submitted and were initially untraceable by December 7. This directive, initially mandated during Masterson’s 2020 arraignment, aimed to ensure compliance with firearm surrender.
In a brief hearing on Thursday, Judge Olmedo confirmed that, according to a probation report, Masterson’s legal team had fulfilled the directive. Accordingly, Masterson is slated for transfer from the Los Angeles County jail to a state prison facility.
Masterson was given a 30-year-to-life sentence after being found guilty in May of raping two women. The whereabouts of the remaining handguns were initially unknown, but Masterson’s counsel told the court in mid-November that one of the missing pistols had been disposed of, according to Meghann Cuniff, a former Law and Crime and Orange County Register journalist.
The eight missing firearms have been found in Oregon, according to the prosecution, and attempts are being made by the probation office to obtain the necessary search warrants in order to retrieve them. This information was released on Thursday. A thorough investigation into this issue is still pending.
The legal developments surrounding Masterson also cast a shadow on his former “That ’70s Show” cast members turned husband and wife, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher.
Criticism ensued for their support of Masterson despite his rape conviction. In September 2023, it was reported that Kutcher and Kunis had written character letters for Masterson during his trial. The actors went silent until Nov. 23 at Thanksgiving, when Kutcher seemed to address the backlash in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
In his post on X, Kutcher shared the following:
