Gypsy Rose Blanchard recounts solitary confinement experience

A woman locked alone inside a prison cell. News - Gypsy Rose Blanchard recounts solitary confinement experience

During her prison term for her involvement in the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, Gypsy Rose Blanchard unveiled that a superfan led authorities to place her in solitary confinement for two weeks.

In her eBook, “Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom,” released on Tuesday, January 9, Gypsy, aged 32, narrated the account of her time in solitary confinement. To clarify, she recounted that a stranger’s social media post about her was what sparked an investigation into her potential prison escape.

According to Gypsy, the fan expressed sentiments like wishing to “bust her out.” This online remark led to her spending two traumatic weeks in solitary confinement.

In addition, Gypsy stated that authorities scrutinized her belongings for any plans, writings, or correspondence indicating her connection to the person who made the post, which she denies.

Gypsy, sentenced in 2016 for the murder of Dee Dee that occurred a year earlier, was given a 10-year term at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. However, on December 28, 2023, after serving roughly eight years of her sentence, she secured early parole.

Since her release, she has committed herself to sharing her side of the story, exposing the years of abuse she endured from her mother. Healthcare professionals suspected that Dee Dee, Gypsy’s mother, had a mental disorder known as Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSP), causing her to falsify Gypsy’s age and fabricate her daughter’s medical issues.

Apart from this, Dee Dee also enforced strict isolation and heavy medication for Gypsy.

Gypsy and her ex-boyfriend Nick Godejohn committed the crime, and he is currently serving a life sentence at Potosi Correctional Center in Missouri.

From prison to celebrity

Gypsy’s interesting story led to her gaining celebrity status. Recalling receiving over 250 letters from men during her incarceration, she now faces an outpouring of admiration and hopes to meet fans since her release.

While sharing daily updates on life after prison, some fans advise her to post about her whereabouts only after leaving an area to protect her safety. Gypsy faced hacking as someone briefly took control of her TikTok account.

In a video on January 8, Gypsy assured fans that she regained control after changing the password and is working with TikTok to restore her account. Despite using social media casually post-release, Gypsy expresses her hope to utilize these platforms for Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSP) advocacy in the future.

She emphasizes her desire to be a voice and provide references for those facing abuse, aiming to go beyond superficial updates about her daily life. Gypsy aspires to make her posts meaningful, intending to contribute to the broader discourse on Munchausen syndrome by proxy.
