Jada Young and Dorian Mallory were charged with drone contraband delivery at Evans Correctional Prison.
According to a report, the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Evans Correctional Prison early on Friday morning when it was discovered that a drone was flying a package across the facility’s grounds. Officials from the prison informed the deputies that the drone was then observed heading in the direction of Saddle Brook Road.
Upon arrival in the area, deputies noticed a dark SUV emerging from the woods behind the prison, prompting a traffic stop based on the late hour and the nature of the call; they subsequently called for backup upon spotting the drone in the SUV’s trunk.
With collaboration from the South Carolina Department of Corrections, deputies confirmed that the two individuals in the SUV were responsible for delivering the contraband-filled package within prison walls, which included items deemed contraband along with 100 grams of marijuana and over 50 grams of methamphetamine; they also confiscated the drone.
Jada Young, the individual who was driving the SUV, has been charged with criminal conspiracy as well as introducing contraband into a state facility. Young was assigned a $10,000 bond on Friday.
A third-offense trafficking methamphetamine charge has been brought against her passenger, Dorian Mallory. She is also charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, introducing contraband into a state facility, and a criminal conspiracy. Mallory’s bond was set at $175,000.
