Joshua James Pinquet, a 21-year-old resident of Orlando, is now facing six charges following his arrest near Statesville related to an incident on Interstate 40 involving the transportation of inmates.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office reported that Pinquet, in a press release, allegedly refused to drop off an inmate at a detention center in Hickory, leading to charges of felony larceny by an employee and five counts of felony second-degree kidnapping.

Pinquet, who was arrested on Tuesday, reportedly quit his job during the trip, prompting the sheriff’s office’s involvement after the transport van deviated from its intended course.

Deputies intercepted the van, which carried a coworker and four inmates, on Interstate 40. The investigation revealed that the transport company had been hired by law enforcement agencies outside North Carolina.

According to the press release, despite being directed to stop in Hickory, Joshua James Pinquet continued into Iredell County. Subsequently, the inmates were handed over to additional employees to ensure they reached their designated destinations in Florida.
